Question:
Tuesday I had a root canal, and the the next three days had pain..Went
back to dentist today, and he said I developed an abcess there...and
gave me an antibiotic to take for 10 days. I am very concerned, as never
heard of a root canal, becoming abcessed. Does this sometimes happen?
Did the dentist do a poor job?
Hope someone can help me to understand, how this can happen.
Answer:
Happens all the time .. .wait it out and listen to the Doc.
Residual infection, and probable inflammation from procedural
trauma.
If the object of the root canal was to clear the tooth of infection and
bacteria, was that a completely new abcess that developed. And why would
an abcess develop except for perhaps trauma. Is the infection of the root
canal different than an abcess. is the abcess in the canal of the tooth.
Does it need further treatment in addition to anti-biotics. What are the
chances of the tooth and root becoming clear of all infection. and is the
the tooth ready to be capped after the course of anti-biotics.
Mainly please explain the difference between the original problem in the
root needing a root canal and the abcess that developed and where the
abcess develops.
Root Canals. A tooth has miles of tiny canals running through the root.
A dead or root filled tooth will have bacteria in these canals. There is no
way of removing the bacteria once they are in there.
