OT: Health and Dental Insurance question?

Question:

could you advise the best in price and service health and dental insurances for me and my wife?

Answer: The whole system is a total rip off and if you get seriously ill you're screwed, health insurance or not. The best - and this is a purely relative use of the word - are employer-sponsored group plans. If you're self-employed, you may be able to procure one through a professional organization.

Depends where you live, and age as well....best ask in the US lifestyle, Manc might have some idea's...

What you can do so save on dental if there's a dental school, use them, normally cheap and you'll be worked on by people that are about to qualify, and there'll be someone watching out....and there cheap...downside only open in term times...

That is very difficult to say. You would have to take several things into consideration when looking for an insurance company and policy:

1. What can you afford in the way of premiums

2. Type of deductible you can afford

3. Do you want an HMO or a PPO

4. What pre-existing health conditions do either of you have

5. Are you look for maternity coverage to be included

6. Prescription plan

As for dental when I was a young mother dental insurance was not included in employment benefits. I used the county dental clinic for myself and my children. Cost was based on ability to pay. There are also dental schools which offer the same type of service for those without insurance.

I dont think we are looking at maternity thing yet:) I am 27 and my wife is 25 yrs old, and in our family she is a smoker, but trying to quit. we are in CA now, SF bay area. So if there are affordable companies, plz advise. about dental schools, do we need to pay cash to them? or we need to contact them for that info.

Don't know, depends on the schools...one in Portland here had walk in cases, but long waits, could pay in cash/cheque/visa...

But you should think about maternity care, bloomin' expensive if you aren't covered and you do get pregnant...if you don't have cover and get pregnant it'll be hard to get cover as it'll generally be considered a pre-existing condition...

I don't know if this will help but I know only too well how hard it is to get good coverage at a fair price, I am starting next week in a new job for a Insurance company and I too will be looking for myself at least I can see what the plans are and also whats really needed and whats not it scares the hell out of me out not to have insurance so I will be right to it.
