Question:
I think I had a bad root canal. After three days of the root canal, it
hurts to grind or bite on my teeth-it hurts to chew anything. My gums seem
very very red an irritated. And, why does the opposite side of where I had my
root canal hurt, like when I bite? Has anybody had this before?
Answer:
My first smart-alecky reply is "is there such a thing as a good root
canal?"
But, seriously, I'm sorry you are in pain. Have you called your
dentist to ask if such symptoms are to be expected? I've never had
a root canal, you are much braver than I!
Sounds like your temporary filling may be too high. This will cause the
periodontal ligament (the ligament that surrounds your root) to bruise.
Possible causes for the gum irritation may be a) the injection or b) the
infection. In any case I would check with your dentist. A simple occlusal
adjustment may be all that is needed.
