Question:
I have been given a quote for a gold crown capping the filling and
tooth mess underneath which used to be a rear molar.
I am working so have to pay the full wack.
What cost should I be looking at?
Three visits are needed - one to patch up the damage, the second to
prepare the molar for the crown & make a cast. The third to fit the
crown.
Any quotations gladly received!!!!!
Does anyone know where consumer information is available for
validating dental work/costs?
Answer:
Don't know about gold, but in my area the cost for a crown matched to
the colour of your other teeth costs between £145 and £250 depending
on which dentist you go to. In my experience it is well worth shopping
around.
If money is a problem you could se if there is a dental hospital near
you. You either get the top man demonstrating for the students or you
get the student supervised closely by the top man.
I paid £400 for my last one. No NHS, no insurance, no Denplan, just £10
notes. Mind you, my dentist has me over a barrel as I am a complete
coward and only change dentists if a)death or b)more than 100 miles
driving is involved. Don't know if that helps.
My insurance paid for most of the one I had 5 years
ago, they paid 400ish & I paid 50
I paid £1640 for four front bottom to be crowned recently, six visits, so
pro-rata £400 would seem about right.
Many years ago I had some work done at a teaching hospital. Two students
did a crown each under the watchful eye of their professor. Gold, free, and
still there.
