Question:
I received a an estimate from my insurance and it gave me the costs from my
dentist for a crown and "prefab post and core." I was just wondering what the
charges for each procedure range from for each of them. The esimate I got for
the porcelain/metal crown was $920 and for the prefab post and core was $350.
My insurance is only paying 50% so I want to see how the prices compare to
others.
Answer:
I just got the same thing. Santa Monica CA. Crowd was $750 and
post-core was $220. I happen to know now there are more expensive
dentists in this area. Fortunately my insurance pays 80% or I'd be
wearing George Washington-type teeth!
You might also want to ask your insurance carrier if they know of any
dentists who provide this service at the rate the insurance company
reimburses for, sometimes they call these participating doctors. I know
my dentist who I have gone to for 20 years and is a friend also, stopped
participating with the major dental service here because of all the
politics that have gone on, he simply won't do things for less money any
more so now he is unfortunately expensive. Some other dentists may be
cheaper, check around...
