Question:
is there a law that limits outrageous dental service fee?
Can dentists charge any unreasonable dollars they want for specific
service/treatment just because they are "special" or just because their
office rent is expensive say for instance in Beverly Hills?
Answer:
No law I've ever heard of. Of course, no law says you have to pay for
his/her Beverly Hills rent either.
No laws against bring your own access either.
OTOH, if he\she\it leases space in Beverly Hills and has signed a lease
agreement, he\she\it is probably also paying outrageous rent.
If you are presented the fees in advance of treatment and feel you are being
overcharged - look elsewhere.
Dentist can charge whatever they want and its up to consumers to shop around
for the best price for the service they want. My experience is that there is
not a whole lot of correlation between the fee and the quality
provided...fee setting really comes from a host of factors.
Of course anyone who charges more than me is clearly ripping people off and
anyone who charges less is obviously doing subpart work with cheap materials
and offshore labs!!!!:)
No, in fact there are laws that INSIST that dentists charge outrageous
fees. The common name is called the BMW Laws ....... something like
that.
Beverly Hills, North Dakota?
Many people from Beverly Hills charter planes and go to Thailand for
dental checkups.
Easy to say, much harder for the average patient to actually do. No
true free market exists for dentistry. For example; dentists don't post
their rates on a menu outside like a fancy resturant, and it is not likely
that any two dentists would agree on what work a particular patient needs.
And of course there is the insurance industry which further confuses the
issue by forcing the dentist to maintain multiple price lists for different
customers.
