Question:
I'm looking for information on the cost of getting dental
braces in Singapore. From what I know, the total cost can run to
about $2000 to $3000. Could someone please provide a breakdown of
the costs involved and of any *dental* subsidies that are available
to civil servants?
Answer:
Civil servants are trying to look good, huh?
Hopefully, the public will receive better services after you fellas have
finished with your braces!
Do you know that the Insitute of dental health charges only about
$600-700 for the entire course?
But the waiting list is quite long between appts so you might have to
wait awhile.
Why is everyone so hostile towards each other in this newsgroup?
Tell me, has he offended you in any way by just posting the message
asking for help?
Why do you have to be so upset about everything?
Don't waste our time reading your pathetic messages.
Why the hostility ? Your civil servant girlfriend dump you, is it ?
Gary asked a nice, polite question and you shot your mouth off at
him for no apparent reason. If you don't have anything nice to say,
then don't say anything.
Gary, your estimation of the costs of braces are fairly accurate.
I underwent braces for a couple of years now and the costs are
somewhere around there. I'm not sure if civil servants seeking
orthodontic treatment are allowed to claim under dental treatment
because it's NOT the usual stuff.
The costs also depends on which set of teeth you intend to fix.
For both upper and lower jaws, you'll need to extract (most
probably) 4 molars (your back teeth); 2 up (left and right)
and 2 down (left and right again). The idea behind this is to
enable the braces to clip onto your molars so that your braces
will not fall off.
For my treatment, I underwent 3 different sets of braces
altogether. Each costs around $200-$300. The costs also
differ depending on the type of braces. Your situation may
be different. Consult your dentist instead.
The 2 places of orthodontic treatment in Singapore
is at SGH-Dental Clinic and Institue of Dental Health (sorry,
can't remember the exact name, it's between the Pasir Panjang
VI and Alexandra Hospital).
You will be asked to for checkups usu. between 3-6 months.
BTW, watch your oral hygiene. I usu. get an earful from
my ortho surgeon. ;)
