Question:
Anyone out there received VA dental care? I went to my first
appointment yesterday and was impressed .. I was always under the
impression that VA dental was a third class operation, but now I know
differently. It is nice that Gov't takes care of disabled vets.

I was just thinking of the San Francisco VA dental clinic.
They lost my records, lost my appointments, uninformed clinic help, supposed
to get two cleaning per year; but, since I'm approaching one year I don't
think I'll get the normal once per year. The cleanings I've had were very
uncomfortable; but, I do have a great regular dentist. The problem seems to
be getting through the front desk personnel. Oh, they're polite and nice
enough but it seems to end right there. And no, I have been pushing peoples
buttons. I did have a tooth extracted that went very well and received an
upper partial. Other than quite a long wait for my first appointment for
the partial. I have to admit though, I can't complain about the price.
How did you get it?
They told me that they *only* do dental work for people who had facial
injuries which involved jaw damage while on active-duty.
Used it one time and had no problems with it. Just like any other
dentist. But it was a 90 mile one way trip to see them so I never
made another appointment. Kind of rough being on the road for 4 hrs,
wait in a waiting room for another hr to set in a dentist chair for 30
minutes. So I found a local dentist here in town.
My appointment was at 10AM and I was in at 10:05 AM .. The VA in San
Antonio is only a 15 minute drive from my house. Have another
scheduled on 18 July .. They are going to put crowns on some of my
back teeth .. I was just impressed with their positive friendly
attitude ... I also use a dentist under the Military Retiree Dental
Plan that cost about $73 a month ..
Then you were luckier than I was. I had a bunch of appointments
with the local VA when I first retired. A real klutz. Every
filling he put in had to be replaced within two years. The
novocain would kick in after the appointment was over. I'd sooner
pay a good dentist any time.
