Question:
My husband are going to Paris in Sept for a week. What should we do if one of
my crowns pops out or I/we have another dental problem?
Answer:
Visit a dentist and claim on your travel insurance.
Contact the American Embassy; they will put you on a military plane and
airlift you back to the United States, where there are dentists.
You can buy emergency dental care packs for travelling, although they
are more often sold for people doing things like single handed round the
world yacht races or expeditions up the Amazon. In Paris you should be
able to ask the hotel receptionist to put you in touch with a dentist.
If one of my crowns popped out without more than one week's
warning I would be very upset with my own dentist.
It was a good question. There's a product called "Dentemp" that can be used to
temporarily reglue caps back in. I work in a dental office and I would recommend
using this only if the tooth is visible (in the front). Personally if it is a back
tooth (molar) just hold on to the temp. I've seen a few patients swallow their
temporaries accidentally. See a dentist only if it hurts and keep it clean..brush
lightly and rinse w/ Listerine alot. You should be okay. Call asap when you return.
To the reader who said that if his temp came out he'd blame the dentist...a temporary
is a temporary. Sometimes, not all - so don't flame me!, the patient is eating food
that s/he shouldn't be eating (crunchy stuff or caramel or toffee). Please don't make
a broad generalization blaming the dentist! We have a bad enough reputation as it
is!!!
