Question:
There is always something behind articles in media.
What's you take on this?
Pure unprofessionalism? Insurance scam?
Answer:
Parents of a three-year-old boy who was given seven
dental fillings without parental notification or consent
have filed a claim against a California Head Start
program provider, which they are further accusing of
having forged the mother's signature on a consent form
in order to cover up any wrongdoing.
Lllian Hines noticed the fillings in her son's teeth while
playing with the boy one evening. A.J., who is enrolled
in a low-income daycare/preschool program in north
San Diego County, had just seen the family dentist two
months earlier when his teeth were pronounced healthy.
The morning after Lillian Hines discovered the fillings,
she and her husband, Autie, called A.J.'s Head Start
child care center to see if officials there could provide an
explanation.
There are clearly too many dentists around!
Let's at least hope, the toddler's seven fillings are not amalgams!...
My guess is that they are amalgams, otherwise mamma probably wouldn't have
seen them at all.
What a mess! Sounds like it was a slow news day. Isn't it odd that the
signed consent was given before the DDS had looked at the child? On first
read I thought maybe someone had forged the document after finding out that
treatment was done
without consent. However, since the consent was seen by the DDS before
treatment was rendered, my guess is Mom signed it not realizing what she
signed, or some kind caregiver thought he/she was helping the child by
signing for Mom. He was probably the only child in the group who's parents
could afford a private dentist and the caregiver didn't want him to miss an
opportunity for dental care.
Lots of things could be behind this. Someone may not like the headstart
program and wants to badmouth it.
I think it's great that a program like this is available to poor families.
