Question:
What do you call that little hook shaped scraper thing you all use?
I want to get one for hobby use and the Franklin Dental website does
not have pictures so I need to know what it is called.
Maybe I could find one cheaper on ebay if I know what to look for too.
Answer:
I turned down TWICE some beautiful titanium dentists' pliers of various
sorts for $4 each at a yard sale. By the time the guy had his next sale
and I'd made up my mind to splurge, they were all gone :-(
You can probably get the dental tools you want from your dentist. I keep
forgetting to ask mine, but my husband, who is a woodturner, had read that
some dental tools are handy to use in woodturning & he just asked his
dentist & he gave him a handful of them. I guess they reach a point where
they aren't useful to the dentist anymore, but helpful to crafty people.
I just got home from the dentist - if I woulda seen your question before I
went, I woulda asked! First time I've had to have a filling for many, many,
many years!
I have seen Dental Tools for sale at Quilts Shows. There was a huge booth at
Houston and last year at the Dallas Quilt show. A Hardware Store in my town
sells them. They are set out in bins. If you still need some let me know I
will be glad to send some to you.
A dd3 is the best for desoldering in electronics, and I think it's a scraper,
as well. It has a blunt tip, and a right-angle bend about 3 millimeters fron
teh end. The sides of this tip end are used for scraping. But the angles and
dimensions are just right for lifting electronic parts from boards during
desoldering.
