Question:
When I'm not paying attention (like while writing an e-mail!) I find myself
grinding my teeth. Also, some mornings I wake up and my jaw is soooo sore-
I have a sneaking suspicion that I ground my teeth while asleep. Is there
anything I can do about this? Am I just totally stressed out?
Answer:
you may want to ask your
dentist about a night guard. If
you are under a lot of stress it
is not unusal to grind your teeth
while sleeping. The night guard
may help in several ways. First
it help to break the habit. It will
cut down on wear and tear to the
teeth. And it may take off some
of the load to the muscles and joint
during bedtime.
I don't know what to do against your stress situation but at least you should
protect your teeth by night with a special guard which will help to break the
habit
and separates the teeth from each other with an adequate occlusal cushion.
This will prevent the abrasion of the teeth and the soreness of your jaw.

The above is generally true.
However, nightguards sometimes don't break the habit,
but intensify it...
If the condition intensifies, load to the muscles
and joints may increase.
