Question:
What is a Natural way to heal gum disease? I've seen a perodontist, dentist
& endodontist and they don't know whats going on. It seems like all that
education doesn't help.
Answer:
Several years ago my dentist recommended gum surgery. Since I didn't
want to do the surgery I looked at alternative ways. I have found that
CoEnzyme Q10 works wonders for me. It's natural but it's not cheap. I
take 30 mg per day. You have to use the oil-base gel capsules not the
powder. For some reason the powder doesn't work as well. I have not
had any more gum problems. I don't know if this works on a lot of
people but it sure worked for me. Also, I have used an oral spray
called OralMist which contains herbs beneficial specifically to gums,
as well as the CoQ10. Life Extension sells the spray. I've had good
luck with the spray but got tired of the mess so I went back to the
gel capsules of the Q10.
Here's how to prevent gum disease.
1. brush after every meal - so simple but so many don't grok it. This
is the foundation for healthy gums and teeth. It's food that gets
between the gum and tooth that creates gum problems. No food, no
problems.
2. when possible, use an ultrasonic toothbrush - Teledyne is better
than Sonicare. But at work, it is very effective to brush with a good
toothbrush and water. No toothpaste is necessary.
3. when at home, floss after brushing.
4. when possible, use a Teledyne Water Pik after flossing. After you
have been using the Water Pik for a while you will immediately know
the condition of your gums. If you haven't been doing a good job for a
couple of days, your gums will be numb. If you skipped brushing at
lunch time your gums will be sore. If you have been doing a good job
of cleaning, your gums will feel normal.
Aside on the Water Pik - I have yet to run into a dentist who will
recommend it. But I haven't been to a dentist in 8 years. Maybe they
have learned. Maybe not. Anyway, don't listen to any naysayers. This
regimen works! If it doesn't work within a few months, then you may
indeed need surgery. The last dentist I went to was astonished at how
healthy my gums were. I'm wasn't young then and haven't gotten any
younger, but as far as I know I don't have any dental problems (knock
on wood).
Also, recently I visited out of town for a week and didn't have my
Water Pik. When I got back I had an infection at the site a partially
grown in wisdom tooth. I got rid of that my own way (we'll save that
for another discussion) and haven't been bothered since.
5. You can create a concoction of sesame seed oil and camphor, in
case, for some reason, following the above regimen is not possible.
Unfortunately, I don't have the recipe handy, but I will get it if
anyone asks. Anyway, swish this around in your mouth after a meal and
bacteria growth will be prevented. Of course it's not the most
pleasant thing, but neither are dental problems.
