home teeth bleaching ?

Question:

i need some advice. I've been reading posts in this forum about at-home teeth bleaching, but I need to know which brands are the most effective for the money. My teeth are yellow because I smoke cigarettes (no brown stains at all, though), and I want to get them bright again. Also any suggestions regarding this will be very helpful to me.

Answer:

First step---Dental check-up/exam by dentist

Second step---Fix any dental problems

Third step---Decide if you want to take a chance with OTC products with limited predictability or go with a kit prescribed by a dentist

Fourth step---begin bleaching

The particular brand does not seem to make a lot of difference. I have not been impressed with OTC, but perhaps others have had good results--I have not seen good results from OTC brands.

You're a dentist...prescribe one for me. Not talking about that OTC junk...the PROFESSIONAL take home kits. I've done searches on search engines, and have found prices that vary from about $100-$300...you're the dentist...just want your advice or any other dentist's advice on which company sells the best fitted trays and bleaching gel with money being the key constraint.

There are no best brands. We (dentists) pay about the same amount for the basic kit regardless of manufacturer. The active ingredient is the same. The flavoring, color and viscosity changes from brand to brand. You are paying for the dental office time to take impressions, pour the models, modify the models, form the trays, trim the trays and instruct you on their use. Find the dentist you like best and go full speed ahead. I charge $250.00 for full mouth bleaching. Some offices charge more, some charge less.

The fit of the tray is relative to the quality of the impression and the care spent in making the tray. (The tray is made in the dental office--not pre-made).
