Question:
Is there a market for better, cheaper, dental software?
I've already had a look at Dentrix. Just wondering.
Answer:
There will always be a market for cheaper anything. However, with the
evolution of the world going the way it is, the higher end software packages
are the ones that will be getting more and more of the action.
Programming is what I do for a living.
These open source things make me sick.
suppose I could pump gas for free and go grocery shopping for free too
Information is meant to be free. Dentrix is $9K for the software alone
plus hardware plus support!
I found that price yesterday. I built a web site for my dentist / oral
surgeon
and he wanted me to tie the web site's scheduling form into the SQL database
that belongs to the Dentrix software. In the process, I found out how much
they charge."$$$ $$$". Then you pointed out this opensouce thing.
I have developed and am still developing dental software - imaging stuff.
I have been collecting names of existing dental clinical systems - I am up
to 29 in the uk and 82 in use.
Rubbished by the big vendors (who have their own proprietary sensors of
course),
I am getting excellent results with my software from a $250 one of these and
conventional film.
Also I saw a press release that SpectraVU/ITC have released / are releasing
an intra-oral camera series with X-Ray film attachment
I don't sell any input devices but I am testing every input device I can get
my hands, on with my software.
Phosphor plate gives excellent results here, by the way, and as they are now
very cheap (the plates) I think a lot of the problems with them come from
tight-arsed dentists not changing them regularly. One I know recognises his
plates by the artefacts and says this is not a problem as he knows what the
all artefacts are.! Patients reportedly prefer them to X-Ray
Tablet sensors as they are more comfortable. I have also seen artefacts from
tablet sensors and film btw.
