Question:
I was wondering if anyone here had tried laser tooth whitening? I have been
seen ads in the magazines from some dentists but do not know anyone who has
had this done.
Answer:
I have it was Great my teethy have never felt better
Who did it for you? I can't find a dentist that will do the whole mouth. And
how long did it take him to do it? How many shades whiter did your teeth
become?
My own experience was definitely short of miraculous:
I had to wear these metal 'prongs' that pulled my lips away from my teeth, and
sat facing the laser for close to an hour. By the time I was finished, I was
close to tears. AND, although the results were somewhat noticeable [to me and
the dentist], but it's not like any aquaintences pulled the old "what's
different about you?" routine. No one noticed.
My teeth were pretty darn sensitive for about a month. Also, you might want to
research the whole topic, I seem to recall some concern about long-term
effects on your teeth, but I can't say for sure.
I probably wouldn't do it again. Also, ask the dentist to provide before and
after photos [my dentist took some of me during the procedure] of patients
that he/she has done in their office. In other words, don't rely on the
marketing-type brochures that the laser-manufacturer gives to the dentist. Of
course, they always show the-very-best-case scenario.
