Question:
I was wondering what the preferred method of whitening teeth was. I
had always thought that the only option was the carbamide peroxide gel
but recently have been reading about a light activated bleaching
method. I found a website britesmile.com and noticed the charge is
only 500 bucks which seems pretty reasonable and they have a dentist
who does the procedure right near me. does anyone know if this is
reliable? or if i should stick with the gel?
Answer:
I have been looking for the answer to this myself. what do you
professionals have to say about it?
When you mention the gel, do you refer to "at night" bleaching with a
custom fabricated tray made by dental professionals ?? If so, stick with
it. The results will be better. Someone else here may contradict me, but
I have never seen results as good as the take home and use all night while
you sleep kits from any one time procedure in the dental office. More
color change for your dollar with the take home kits.
If I am not mistaken this is one of the several "power bleaching" materials on
the market. They range from 35-44% carbamide peroxide. Due to the high
concentration and its possible effects on the gums, extreme care must be taken
on application. Often time the bleaching is aided with the use of a plasma arc
lights, argon lasers, or turbo halogen lights. Occasionally a CO2 laser is
used. This should be monitored closely by the dentist. Be prepared for up to
3 applications of the power gel at the initial visit, and a 1.5-2 hour visit.
You should also know that post op sensitivity is usually higher with this
treatment, although reversible. Although it is possible to bleach out in only
one visit, Reality dental makes the following quote, "bleaching is never 100%
predictable, with power bleaching being the most variable." Also check into
whether additional sessions may be necessary and additional expenses may be
incurred for this.
