Question:
I am a hygienist in Cheltenham, England and am interested in any
reports of Opalescence tooth whitener, both by professionals and
patients.
Answer:
What would you like to know. Antecdoteal evidence that it works? It
does.
I had my son do it over 1.5 years ago (just the uppers) the difference is
still amazing.
I have been using it in practice and haven't had any problems. No sore
gums, no overwhitening, no serious sensitivity.
I'm a teacher at Tel-Aviv University, school of dentistry, Israel.
I'm teaching esthetics to the 6th year students in the department of
operative dentistry.
In the school and at my private office I'm using the Opalescence
(Ultradent) bleaching material. This material which is a gel containing
10% Carbamide peroxide gave excellent results when using it in special
whitening trays (Nightguard trays). Usually I instruct my patients to
use the trays for 4 hours every evening, not during sleep.
There are very few side-effects, espessialy mild post-bleaching pains
which disappear after a few hours. The material usually doesn't leach
from the tray and it sticks the tray to the teeth.
There are no complains about bad taste or any other soft tissue
irritation.
I just had my first dissatisfied bleaching patient. She was truly unhappy
with the results. Her teeth became more translucent at the incisal 1/2
and very dense looking at the apical half of the crown. She hadn't
bleached the lower arch yet and the color difference was just barely one
shade different after 7 applications.
It appears to me that the B shades are just as hard to bleach as the gray
shades. I hope that the next week or so will mellow out the teeth that
were treated. I hate it when things don't just quite work out, we have
had so many happy people that are truly thrilled with the results.
