Question:
Economical method for preventing gum disease? Any ideas?
Answer:
This always depends on whom you ask. If there is bone loss and serious
comrpomise of supporting structures, I believe a periodontist, that is
a dentist with specialized training is the MAIN MAN. Or there are
plenty of dentists who are similarly skilled.
Now if the entire treatment consists of shipping you off to room three
where the dental hygienist (two years schooling, generally a community
college or trade school environment) is in charge of therapy, then I
say no!
Gum disease begins with inflammed gums (gingivitis).
As you know, -itis means INFLAMMED. So the little chick can certainly
handle that. Home care is likewise important.
Once its in the bone, then more aggressive treatment is necessary so
it requires more thought.
If you want to prevent gum disease, I suggest community college
..........oh alright ...I mean have a student of dental hygeine clean
your teeth rather than the dentists handmaid:-) The trainee will
cost less.
Floss, pressure water cleaners like Water Pik, coQ-10. flavonoids,
magnesium, vitamin C. Don't use baking soda, it seems to make matters worse.
I used the word "hobbyist" because here in Texas, it's illegal (I'm told) to
have more than 6 or so dildos, because that makes you a "dealer" of such
things in the eyes of the law, but if you have 5 or fewer, you're considered
a "hobbyist."
Not that there's any connection between gum disease and dildos, mind you . .
. I guess it's just something to chew on . . .
One economical way to PREVENT gum disease is to make your own
mouthwash. All you have to do (besides brushing and flossing, of
course) is to add a couple drops of tea tree oil, a couple drops of
clove oil, and a couple drops of eucalyptus oil to about eight ounces
of water. Store in a clean dark glass container with a lid.
Shake each time before using. Use as a mouth wash. Gargle twice a day.
Don't swallow, just like you wouldn't swallow any other mouthwash.
Each of the essential oils are antibacterial/antiviral/antifungal.
I add bergamot because it is a mood elevator, (my mouth is happy after
each gargle, hehe) and has a nice aroma.
