Question:
My son went through a period of teeth grinding. The doctor sugested
vitamin b6. Follow the instructions on the bottle.
Answer:
Yes, vit. B6 can work in teeth grinding because, as pyridoxal
posphate, is the co-factor of all decarboxylases, and of Glutamic
acid decarboxylase (GAD) too.
Teeth grinding, also called bruxism, is a symptom of stress
(physical, chemical, biological/metabolic or psychologica-social
stress).
One can observe it as night bruxism or day bruxism or both.
It could be produced by a reduced A-GABAergic inhibition and an
icreased B-GABAergic inhibition and an excess of peripheral
acetylcholine.
Bruxism can be relieved by stimultating A-GABAergic inhibion, by a
benzodiazepine (eg: diazepam 1-3 mg in the evening) or by reducing B-
GABAergic inhibition (eg. Carbamazepine 100-200 mg/day, in the
evening in the case of night bruxism, or half dose twice, in case of
day bruxism, or night and day bruxism. The use of both drugs can
reduce the dosase of each of them, and to add vit. B6 is always a
good choice,.being known the anti-stress acton of this vitamine.
Following a crash in my hard disc files, I cannot address this
answer to whom asked me a plain explanation on teeth grinding.
1. Teeth grinding is a symptom of stress.
2. The stressor could be a physical, or chemical, or
biological/metabolic or psychological/social agent.
3. The stressor can arise from out the body or from the body itself.
4. You can act on teeth grinding with 1-3 mg of VALIUM tm; or with
100-200 mg of TEGRETOL Tm, or with a combination of both drugs.
5. By adding 100-150 mg /daily of Vit. B6, you can strength the
antistress action of the two previous drugs.
The previous article was an explanation, this one is a article of
faith. My habit is to give explanations, as far as possible.
