Question:
Lately I see a lot of dentists advertising laser tooth whitening. What
is your opinion on the procedure? Is there enough data to support its
long-term safety? How effective is it compared with using gel? If it
is safe, how should I go about making sure that the dentist is
qualified to perform the procedure?
Answer:
Usually more expensive than
conventional bleaching. Usually
more post operative sensitivity
than conventional bleaching.
Result often not a dramtic as
conventional bleaching. Especially
if only one laser whitening treatment
is done. Requires long visit in dental
chair vs conventional bleaching.
However if you need it now
(white/light teeth post haste) vs
6-12 days with conventional bleaching,
it may be the ticket.
To if its bright and white, one can't be
uptight and out of sight
