Question:
I'm wondering if anyone has had problems with their teeth turning
translucent after bleaching their teeth?
I just completed bleaching teeth using the 16% version of Nite White Excel3.
I used the whitening gel for about 10 nights within the 4 to 8 hour
parameters. On the first night, I noticed that dark marks were created
and/or revealed. From what I can tell, these dark marks are actually enamel
that is semi-translucent. It's more translucent and less white the the rest
of my teeth. The problem is on my top front teeth. I reported this to my
dentist and he told me that this was normal and that I just needed to
continue with the bleaching. I told him that I used a pen light to
illuminate the teeth from behind and that it looked like the dark spots were
actually translucent not dark (i.e. I could the where the dark spots were,
were lighter than the rest when illuminated (you can't totally see through
them as far as I can tell, but, it looks clearer to me)), but, he didn't
seem to believe me. So, I went ahead and followed his advice assuming that
he knew more than me. However, the problem never resolved itself and I'm
convinced that the problem has to do with clearness in my teeth. When I
would bleach the teeth, they would temporarily turn white, but, then they
turned back dark again after a few hours after bleaching.
My sister had a similar problem were the bottom edges of her top teeth
turned clear. In my case the clear marks are mixed in with the tooth, not
just at the edges.
Has anyone else had this problem? I'm definitely regretting this. I can't
believe I'm actually hoping that my teeth will turn yellow again just to
hopefully even things out.
Answer:
I have not bleached them again but you can get color evened out by a dentist
who does cosmetic work to. ask if you need any enameling to.
Fortunately, yes, they did even out after I stopped for about a week or two.
I think they are still more translucent than they were, but, maybe that's
just because it took off the yellow staining that I had before. They were
really spotting and scary looking before. Now, they evened out. I don't know
if what you are seeing is like what I had, but, I think the black marks are
actually because the surface enamel is transparent, so, you can see further
into the tooth. I only know from my own experience, but, my guess is that
your teeth will pretty much return to normal like mine did. Of course, I'm
late responding to this message, so, maybe they are already...
