Question:
How is Tooth whitening gel made ?
I was told the main ingredients are Peroxide and Glycerin, which are very inexpensive.
Why then are gel kits so expensive?
Answer:
If you're talking about the over the counter gels or the "as seen on TV" kits, the formulations vary from product to product and they are not expensive. The problem I see with these products is that the tray is a so-called universal size that doesn't fit most people's mouths. This makes for wate of gel and a lot of material swallowed. If you're talking about a bleaching procedure done by a dentist, the material used is either Carbamide Peroxide or Superoxol (concentrated Hydrogen Peroxide). Methods may vary and the price could be around $300 to $600. The difference is you are paying for a service from an expert, not a kit.
