Question:
Does anybody know if these kits can be used on teeth that are bonded??
They're not porcelain veneers - it's some resin or plastic stuff instead
(aah, the joys of 12-year-old dental work in your mouth) Anyways, I've been
thinking about getting one of those kits, but I don't know what would happen
when it hits the bonding...?
Answer:
I went around and around for years with theese. Everything, the
pastes, the polishes, the tooth-shaped trays with nasty asting
gel. Nothing worked.
Mostly it's because I have what I guess you could call "unusual"
teeth. I was on antibiotics as a small baby, when teeth are
still forming, and as a result my top four centermost (right up
front and center!) teeth have _no_ enamel on them.
It's amazing I never had cavaites, but they suck up stains like
the dickens, and by the time I was in jr. high they were almost
literally ORANGE! Plus, they're rough, not smooth, so things
stick to them. Food, lipstick, whatever. gross.
What was the best thing that happened to be was getting them
heat bonded by my family's dentist. They wern't blinding-white,
but they were normal looking. That was almost 10 years ago and
they still look pretty good, despite my bad behaviors (can we
say pot o coffee a day?).
Was it pearl drops? I think that's the oldest, actually. I
remember it.
But, for the record, my dentist (who rocks) knows I can't really
afford cosmetic procedures on a normal basis, said he's seen the
best results in patients who've used the Rembrandt system.
If you get any redness, soreness, or (worst of all) bleed when
you brush and floss, stop until you see your dentist.
According to something I saw on TV a year or so back, the Rembrandt Age
Defying Toothpaste (which is what I use, being an Old Fart ;-) is better
at lightening teeth than their Dazzling White whitening program. I
started with the latter and am now using the former, and while my teeth
aren't blindingly white, they're definitely whiter than they were.
Also, for some reason I can use Rembrandt products with fluoride,
whereas I have trouble with most of the other brands (I get this sort-of
rash at the corners of my mouth, which I was once told was probably a
fluoride sensitivity. They must buffer it or something in Rembrandt;
all I know is that it works fine, and doesn't wreck my lips for the sake
of my teeth).
Also, the Age-Defying toothpaste is cheaper than eithe Dazzling White or
their regular toothpaste lines. Just remember to get the mint flavor,
not the original, which is wintergreen...unless, of course, you *like*
wintergreen.
I don't know whether it would weaken the dental work, but it won't do a thing to
whiten veneers, so I'm guessing there's an impenetrable barrier on bonded teeth,
too. They work mostly by bleaching out microscopic stains on the surface of
your teeth (which aren't completely smooth).
