Question:
I recently purchased Dr. George's Dental White Tooth whitening system.
The treatment involves wearing a mouthpiece which coats the teeth with
a gel for 90 minutes a day for 14-21 days. The instructions say that the
active ingredient is carbamide peroxide. More precisely the bottle lists:
Glycerine
Propylene Glycol
Hydrogen Peroxide
Urea
Carbopol 940
Triethanolamine
Benzophenone 4
Peppermint Oil
My questions are
Is it safe?
Will it damage the enamel coating of the teeth?
Answer:
I bought it at WalMart for about $8. I still have heard no comments from
any professional on this group as to whether it is a safe method to
whiten teeth...
I am not familar with that product - I suggest you enlist your dentist's help
in bleaching your teeth with any product. The bleaching products do not work
on all stains and gum irritation may occur with overuse. I would also suggest
your dentist may a mold of your mouth to ensure a good fit with the product in
the tray. Also, take a picture of your teeth before you bleach to use as a
reference. Many people overbleach their teeth and they end up looking like
they have
false teeth. Your dentist can let you know when your teeth have reached their
maximum whiteness.
Watch out for some of these "Systems"!! There is one type
thatconsists of 3 parts, where one is a"peroxide" the next is a rinse
which has acetic acid - an acid which can, will & does eventually
dissolve the enamel on teeth - the third is a toothpaste which is
actually just a white powder which sticks to your now acid roughened
teeth, but washes off as soon as you again brush!
