Question:
My neutered male DSH is only one year old and has developed serious
gingivitis. His gums are very inflamed. I took him to the vet on Friday,
and was given some sort of gel to rub on his gums once per day. So far,
I've seen no improvement. Has anyone had experience with this? What was
done, and how successful was it?
Answer:
It may take a bit longer for the gingivitis to respond. Sometimes
antibiotics are also in order.
Not to make you worry, but often cats with FIV often have severe gingivits.
I would imagine if your cat has not been tested, goes outdoors, or if he
does not respond to treatment, you may wish to do so for a definitive
diagnosis.
Cats with FIV can actually live a long life without many complications as
long as you treat every little thing quickly.
He may very well not have FIV, some breeds are more likely to suffer from
this problem such as Abbysinians, Siamese, and others. Perhaps your kitty
has some such heritage?
