Question:
Actually it's a relief. My granny is in and out of the hospital and I
am also organizing the Equi-fair we're having in conjunction with the show. I
thought we had the tooth thing solved last year when I had him floated and
checked for wolf teeth. Now it seems this bit was cracking him on those upper
canines all this time. Don't get the same reaction in his western shanked
snaffle but the french link on the dressage bridle is smacking on those teeth.
Is it possible to have the upper canines removed? Do they serve a purpose? The
trainer working with us adjusted his bit so high to avoid them he ends up
looking like the Joker from Batman. Meanwhile...I'm trying to arrange a dental
vet visit with several owners in my area, so we can share the call. (He's an
hour and a half away from us.) I'm taking my massage chair to make up for non
returnable show fees (maybe a dental visit too) and hopefully things are
quieter on the family front come April for the next schooling show. ;)
Answer:
From the ones you list (I assume you've actually experienced problems
with them, rather than having a problem with one, and having all the
rest written off as part of a group of "common problem causers") it
sounds to me like you're toting around an allergy to opiates. My advice:
stay clear of Demerol. If the ones you list have given you hell, I'll
bet the farm that Demerol will do you just the same, if not worse, since
it's a close relative to all of them, and usually considered to be
"higher octane" than any of them. I'd also suggest that in any future
doctor/dentist/hospital situations that might need a pain killer, you
make sure the person taking your history notes an allergy to opiates on
your chart.
Either 27 or 28 y.o. (about 5 years ago now) and that was my only trip to the
dentist's in 5 years in the military, I was getting discharged 3 weeks later
and decided to have it done for free instead of waiting another 10 years and
paying mega bucks to have it done.
Incidentally, I went to the dentist a couple months back (first time since
teeth extraction cited above) and the only thing that needs to be done is
replace the 2 plugs I got 22 years ago to fix the 2 cavities I got treated when
I was 10 (in 1979). The dentist sais they should never have lasted this
long... go figure.
Mine were the same. Occational pain, but nothing bad until the crooked one
reached my cheek and made my jaw click. Then I sought help. The ear/sinus
connection is possible...in the end the psycho tonsil ended up being a psycho
tumor. According to specialist it shouldn't have caused any physical ailments.
Funny how my chronic ear infections and tonsilitis stopped when it was removed.
Barfing and itching are side effects of all opiate pain meds and aren't
considered "allergies".......there's lots of good meds available to counteract
the nasty quisiness and itching. LOL - they tend to make you sleepy
though........If codeine makes you especially nauseated or gives you a bad
stomach ache ask your doctor for Vicodin - although it's made from similar
stuff it's processed a bit more and doesn't seem to have near the tummy effects
codeine has.
