Question:
As an early teen it was strongly recommended that I get my four impacted
wisdom teeth removed. However, when I went to the oral surgeon to talk about
it, I was given quite a horror story (not her fault) of all the things that
could go wrong, including losing sensation in part of my face due to
extraction of the uppers. I decided to put it off until they caused me
problems (I know, common bad idea).
Answer:
Anyways, here I am 24 and I haven't been to a dentist in quite a while, but
believe it or not one of my upper wisdom teeth has actually come through
normally, with the other on the way. However, this first seems to be a
"poor" tooth and already has some troublesome decay forming on the sides
near the gum that I want to get corrected soon (my mouth is VERY cramped --
heavy orthodonics as a child -- and this tooth angles out slightly, making
it impossible to get a toothbrush beside it).
I was wondering if anyone knew what to suggest -- get the tooth repaired or
pulled? I'll be seeing a dentist as soon as possible, since I'm a bit
freaked about the decay, but wanted to get some opinions first.
Nothing new there ........ doctors used to recommend appendectomies
and tonsillectomies too ....... I prefer to judge each case on its
own. Many impacted teeth get straight and erupt just fine .... the jaw
grows quite a bit between 18 and 24 ......
Uppers come out so easy .... I "elevate" them out! WARNING: Do not try
this at home. This needs to be performed by seasoned professionals
under ideal road conditions ..... and yes objects in the mirror appear
farther away than they really are .....
